What UDT stands for and what it does What does the UDT do? The UDT, or Office of Technical Inspection, is an institution that ensures the safety of technical machines and that issues state authorisations for their operation. The foundation of the UDT is the legal acts (Act of 21 December 2000 on technical supervision). Its tasks include: Controlling, monitoring and complying with regulations that relate to the safe use of technical equipment and technical supervision; Keeping records of technical equipment put into service; Quality systems certification for technical equipment; Technical supervision of technical equipment; Analysis of the effects of technical damage and continuous monitoring of the degree of danger these devices cause; Issuing decisions and opinions on the exercise of technical supervision; Activities that aim to improve the professional skills of manufacturers and users of technical equipment with regard to their safe operation; Establishing training programmes for those who use and maintain technical equipment; Testing the qualifications of those who manufacture technical equipment, as well as those who upgrade, maintain, operate and repair it. Technical supervision and equipment Technical Inspection is any activity noted in the Technical Inspection Act to ensure the safe operation and use of technical equipment. The technical devices that are subject to Technical Supervision are listed in the Decree of the Council of Ministers of 7 December 2012. The list of all machines is very long and includes devices that, for example, may pose a danger through the expansion of pressurised gases, the distribution of dangerous loads during their transport (e.g. steam boilers, liquid boilers, liquefied gas tanks and cisterns), as well as all so-called handling machines (e.g. hoists, cranes). Equipment subject to technical supervision also includes: Mobile platforms; Overhead cranes; Stackers; Passenger or freight cranes; Stairs and moving walkways; Equipment designed for people with disabilities; Trucking; lift trucks; And also: Pressure cookers; Pipelines; Movable platforms; Cableways; Loading equipment; Track stackers. About the qualifications of the UDT It is very important that a plant that manufactures, repairs, modernises or assembles technical equipment is authorised by the OTI. We are talking here about plants occurring in our country, as well as foreign companies. The UDT authorisations also define the qualifications of each individual employee of the plant in the scope of service and repair or operation of equipment that is subject to technical supervision, and more precisely - handling equipment. Certificates, which are issued by the Office of Technical Inspection, confirm employees' knowledge of the legislation and rules, knowledge of the technical conditions of technical supervision. The certificate confirms skills in operating or maintaining equipment subject to technical supervision. A factory employee who wishes to obtain a UDT licence must successfully pass a state examination before an examination board. The exam consists of a theoretical and a practical part. It is advantageous to enrol in a course and obtain the necessary knowledge on the course in order to be certified as a UDT. Operator Training Centre offers high quality UDT training.
