Types of forklifts

forklift truck

Depending on their type (model), we can distinguish a few characteristic features which make them capable of handling the warehouse in a different way, according to the manager's expectations. In this text, we will take a look at reach trucks, stacker trucks, lift trucks and variable reach loaders, as well as telescopic handlers and industrial trucks. I invite you to read on.

Our starting point will be to discuss the types of licenses issued to operate forklifts, and we will also recall the construction of the most common forklift truck.

The construction of the lift truck is as follows:

It consists of framework device made of steel, its size and shape depend on the type of forklift, as we mentioned before, the reach trucks have a reinforced mast and at the same time a stronger arm that allows them to lift and collect goods from a much higher height than other forklifts.

Another element is bogie chassisThree-wheel or four-wheel, depending on the type of trolley, provides it with better mobility, but the wheels must be adapted accordingly, also depending on the model and the place of work.

Engine - Most forklift trucks are fitted with LPG engines, but electric, battery, petrol and diesel powered forklifts are also used. Characteristic of the new type of forklifts is their autonomy, however, the commonly used forklifts still require an operator, which will not change for a long time yet.

Reach forklift

The element we mentioned earlier, namely mast - is the part that takes the form of a vertical frame on which the carriage and its forks are fixed. Ambulance - the faceplate, which is connected to the mast, to which are attached pitchforks - designed to carry loads, can have different dimensions and additional attachments depending on the load, for example barrels.

To complete the picture of the 'full guttering' of a forklift truck, mention should be made of the following protective grille used to secure loads during their movement. Which brings us immediately to counterbalances - is located at the rear of the trolley, responsible for maintaining the trolley's balance and stability when carrying loads.

The last elements are related to safety and comfort - safety cage - Protects the forklift operator from loads lifted and collected from high shelves. Providing comfort, safety and at the same time ergonomic work operator's cab - open, with a transparent roof to facilitate visibility (depending on the model and adaptation to the needs of use), enclosed on the sides, protecting the operator, the cab contains the tools to control the truck, including pedals, steering wheel, levers.

However, forklift trucks would not be able to operate and perform their functions if they were not equipped with a hydraulic systems - These are responsible for the speed at which loads are lifted on the forks, and likewise act as a brake, protecting the operator from falling loads in extreme cases.

The knowledge of the structure of the forklift trucks, which are commonly used when working in a warehouse, is obligatory for the operation of this device. This does not mean that it is not the case with other models, each operator should always get acquainted with its construction, operating conditions and technical parameters before starting work with a new truck, in order to avoid possible accidents. What is more, a forklift truck (fork-wheel truck) is a motor-driven motor vehicle, adapted to the transport of goods of considerable weight (even up to several dozen tons). We distinguish them from pallet trucks in that there is a place for the operator on them, and they are also equipped with a variable boom that allows you to maneuver with the load placed on the forks. On the other hand, the trolleys are easily steered using a drawbar, they do not take up so much space, they are able to carry a weight of up to three tons, and their maximum climb ceiling is 500 mm. For this reason, we most often find them in store warehouses, when transporting food products.

The booming online commerce and the overall development of the quality of service provided by delivery companies are supporting consumer demand. As a result, the number of orders increases, and thus the number of various types - from clothing to metallurgical castings - of goods stored in warehouses. In order to ensure the best functionality of the supervisory unit that oversees the organization of warehouse operations, additional spaces are needed, which most often will not be found in the full area. Where, then, can we find them? If it is not possible to widen the width or length of the magazine, look up. We use high-bay forklifts to develop hard-to-reach spaces higher than the others. They are characterized by a reinforced mast structure, thanks to which these trolleys have low capacity drops and long-term durability. They are adapted to the needs of the operator, designed in such a way as not to disturb the view during maneuvers and work ergonomics.

telescopic loader

The variable reach loader - telescopic, is a forklift designed to transport larger objects. It is most often used for work on construction sites and in agriculture, its special design and greater power than the average forklift truck allows it to perform similar manoeuvres with much heavier loads. These are usually steel constructions, concrete elements, aggregates, wood, straw, etc. To operate the machine, the operator must have a certificate of competence.CSO Operator Training Centre deals with the education of candidates taking the UDT exam (Office of Technical Inspection) aimed at obtaining operator's qualifications, among others, to operate mobile mobile platforms. It is a school with many years of activity, with highly qualified staff and as many as 98 percent of satisfied customers. If you are interested in working as an operator or would like to expand your competences, or maybe you know someone willing, recommend us and visit our website training-udt.pl, where you will be able to see the entire offer of services provided by SPAs.
