IRATA training - certified rope access courses

What is IRATA?

IRATA International (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) is the largest and most recognised organisation in the world for the certification of industrial rope access technicians. It was established with the aim of standardising and improving safety in working at height.

The IRATA system is based on a two-line method and well-defined procedures that have been developed from years of analysis of real incidents and thousands of hours worked in the field.

Thanks to its international character and high standards, IRATA certification opens the door to work all over the world - from oil rigs and wind farms, to industrial plants and power stations, to construction projects and specialised technical inspections.

Course structure

The IRATA training course lasts several days and includes many hours of intensive practical and theoretical instruction. The course is conducted according to the standards of the IRATA International organisation, and each day is a combination of learning rope techniques, principles of HEALTH AND SAFETY, practice under realistic conditions and prepare for the exam.

Classes are taught by qualified instructors who, in addition to imparting technical knowledge, also share practice gained in real-life working conditions at height. On the last day, there is a skills test, assessed by an independent IRATA examiner - guaranteeing reliable verification and compliance with global standards.

Upon passing, the participant receives:

  • IRATA international certificate (valid for 3 years),
  • plastic identification card,
  • the technique's work logbook,
  • entry in the IRATA Global Register of Technicians.

Three levels of IRATA training

Level 1 - Trainee technician

Designed for people with no previous experience. On completion of the course, the climber can work using rope techniques under the supervision of a Level 3 qualified person.

Requirements:

  • good health (no contraindications to work at height),
  • basic physical fitness.

Level 2 - Specialist technician

Level for those with experience. The Level 2 technician performs field tasks independently, prepares work stations and participates in rescue operations under Level 3 supervision.

Requirements:

  • possession of a valid Level 1 certificate for at least 12 months
  • a minimum of 1,000 hours of rope access work, documented in a logbook,
  • a current medical certificate.

Level 3 - Supervising technician

Highest level of qualification. A person at this stage is responsible for the entire team, work plan, risk assessment and rescue procedures. Knowledge of material from all levels is required, plus:

  • a minimum of one year's experience since gaining Level 2,
  • another 1,000 documented hours in the logbook,
  • up-to-date examination and first aid certificate.

Renewal of entitlements

The IRATA certificate remains valid for 3 years after passing the exam. In order to continue as a rope access technician, it is necessary to take the re-examination before the expiry date of the document - otherwise the qualification will expire and cannot be renewed anymore, and the only option will be to start the course again from level 1.

If a climber has had a break in the rope access profession of more than 6 months, IRATA requires the completion of additional refresher training. Such a course does not result in an exam, but is mandatory and should be documented by an entry in the logbook. Its purpose is to refresh skills and ensure safety when returning to field activities.

It is advisable to ensure continuity of work and regular completion of the logbook, as it is the formal proof of experience and a prerequisite for joining the next levels of certification.

Price of training

Included in the course price are all the necessary fees: the exam and the issuing of the IRATA certificate, course materials and the care of qualified instructors on each class day. This is a comprehensive investment in qualifications that enable you to work both in Poland and abroad - in the most demanding industry sectors.
