Telescopic handlers - what are they and what are they used for?

For construction or agricultural work, specialised tools and machines are often needed to make the operators' work easier and faster. One of these includes telehandlers. Let's take a look at their advantages and use.  

Construction of a telehandler 

A telehandler is nothing more than a specialised forklift truck. With a basic division, we divide these machines into two types: 

• frontal, 
• rotating. 

On the front ones, the boom is positioned on the right side and the operator's cab is stationary. In the latter, which are rotary, both the boom and the operator's cab are movable, allowing loads to be lifted to greater heights. 

Functionality of telehandlers 

Telescopic handlers are very versatile and helpful for many jobs. They can be used not only in agriculture or construction, but also in mining, the timber industry, aviation, as well as in seaports.  

The design and tooling that these loaders have allows for a wide range of jobs for which it is necessary to move, lift and transport loads and people. The attachments available to us here are:

• pitchforks,
• winches,
• grippers,
• spoons,
• ploughs,
• mowers,
• various types of platform.  

 Traditionally, these machines have been used in construction, transport, cultivation and animal husbandry. Today's models, however, have such enormous capabilities that using them exclusively in these four industries is a waste of their potential. 

Telescopic loader applications

Probably the most popular and used are in constructionwhere they are virtually irreplaceable. With a lifting capacity of up to 20 tonnes, they are ideal for handling heavy building materials, such as stone blocks, steel beams and much more. An additional plus is that they can be operated in virtually all weather and terrain conditions. This speeds up the work and relieves the burden on the construction workers. 

No less important are on agricultural holdingsThis applies not only to animal husbandry, but also to crop cultivation tasks. Moving heavy bales, bales of hay and fodder is much lighter, and also faster, with the help of a special machine. 

Recently, telescopic handlers have also been frequently used in mines and quarries. Their ability to work both on and under the ground makes them ideal for moving loads, but also for maintaining equipment.  

These machines are equally useful at airports or portswhere it is not uncommon to have to move heavy equipment or material. In these situations they are indispensable devices.
