Rail-mounted (harbour) cranes - training for operators and maintainers

Harbour cranes are cranes used to move goods for loading and unloading. As their name suggests, they are usually used to work in seaports. Their design allows them to carry out several operations at the same time: they can lower or lift loads by rotating around their own axis, while also varying the inclination of the boom and moving along the coastline.
These are extremely helpful machines for loading and unloading cargo ships.

We can divide harbour cranes into two types in terms of their design:

  • 4 - articulated,
  • and cantilevered, with rope compensation.

In order to become an operator or maintainer, you must first obtain a licence that allows you to work.

Our training

Our company offers pre-training. With us, you will acquire the necessary theory and practically learn how to operate or maintain cranes in good technical condition.

Who is our training for?

Both individual clients and companies. The course can take place at our centre or at the client's premises. As a course candidate, you only need to meet a few simple requirements:

  • be at least 18 years old,
  • have a minimum of primary education,
  • demonstrate that there are no medical contraindications to working in the post, as documented by an appropriate doctor.

training in the use of port cranes The training consists of theory and practice, and the framework lecture plan includes:

  • information on technical supervision,
  • construction and function of cranes,
  • all about proper operation,
  • health and safety regulations,
  • possible risks at work and how to prevent them,
  • detailed theory on the operation of cranes,
  • working under difficult conditions,
  • for maintainers: carrying out maintenance, keeping the machine in good working order and assessing this condition, maintainer's duties, dealing with and preventing breakdowns.

This is followed by practical exercises with the equipment, where the future operator learns how to work with and prepare for cranes, and the maintenance technician learns technical assessment and the use of maintenance substances (such as lubricants and oils).

TDT exam

After completing the training, the trainee can take an examination before the TDT board. This one takes place at the workplace. It is possible to pass rail crane at work in the harbourexamination also at our centre, in order to be able to work with port cranes in the future. A positive result (both theory and practice) is equivalent to receiving a certificate, issued for 5 years from the date of passing the exam.

Why choose us?

We assist with all formalities related to enrolment and the subsequent collection of the certificate. Our employees are
specialists with many years of experience who are happy to share their knowledge and help you to successfully pass the exam at the first attempt. Your success, is our success.

Working in the profession

Holders of a TDT certificate can work in Poland, the European Union as well as in Canada, the USA and Switzerland. If required, certification can be renewed, subject to a minimum of three years' proof of work in the profession during the period of validity of the licence.
Working as an operator or maintenance worker offers many job opportunities both in Poland and abroad. Earning a well-paid job or the possibility to set up your own company is a guarantee.

Questions and answers

How do we divide rail cranes?

We can divide them into two categories: 4 - articulated and cantilever, with rope compensation. With regard to the structure of the trolley (the platform on which the rotating component is mounted), we divide them into: portal (gantry) cranes on rails, portal (gantry) cranes on rubber wheels, self-propelled cranes and pedestal-mounted cranes.

How do harbour cranes work?

These are machines that have the advantage of performing multiple activities simultaneously. They can lift and lower loads, rotate around their own axis, change the inclination of the boom and move along the quay.
